Chantilly, 2012

Picture
The Chantilly is a Greenleaf half scale kit in the Gothic Victorian style.  This kit is an improvement over older Greenleaf kits as it is laser cut.  No more punching out pieces, sanding, and repairing splintering wood. I added a stone foundation and steps to give the house a more impressive profile.

The Process

Picture
My poor husband has one less yard stick!  I use small pieces of basswood to create siding, and formed stones from Sculpty for the foundation and chimney.

This coffee cup has been placed beside the house to provide an idea of the size.

It may be small, but it has a ton of trim!

The Tootsietoy table and chairs are antiques.

I set some furniture inside to test the space.

I found a great deal on a Tootsietoy kitchen set and refinished it.  It fits so well with this house that I decided to change the kitchen setting.
Picture
I made the rock-like ground covering by mixing black paint with spackling, spreading it on the wood, and scoring "stones" with a small dowel pin.
Picture
The trellis is made from small pieces of basswood. The one on this side is about twice as large as the one on the other side of the house.
Picture
The picket fence was made from a piece I purchased at a hobby store. It was a picket fence, but held together with wire. I took it apart and glued it to strips of basswood, using a larger piece of basswood for posts.

The tree is a model railroad landscaping piece purchased from Hobby Lobby (40% off with coupon at their website).

This little house has a trap door on the roof that leads into the attic!

I decided some grass should be growing though the stones.

I cross-stitched a bedspread and pillows to go in the master bedroom.
Picture
I bid on this little sewing basket on eBay.  I did not realize it was a kit, so I hoped to be outbid.  I wasn't, but it wasn't so difficult to assemble, and it really fits this little house.

All the wallpapers in this house are really scrapbook papers.  The radio is an antique by Renwal.
