Craftsman House, 2013

I modified a House that Jack Built dollhouse kit, Christy's Cottage, to create this Craftsman style house.

I changed the porch railing trim, door, and windows to fit the style.  I added stained glass gold and red paint to the windows.  The foundation has stones made from Sculpty clay.  The steps and porch lanterns are also made with the same stained glass paint.  The birdbath is a Strombecker, on of my favorite pieces. The picture below shows the front step railing that I just added.

Trim and shingles were added to adhere to the Craftsman style.

The house number reflects the year the house was built.  The exterior lights were fashioned after some I found in researching the style.
Picture
I baked over 5 sheets of Sculpty "stones" in order to cover the foundation of this house.
Picture
The top floor was made into an attic, a good storage space for leftover pieces.  The planks in the attic came from a bamboo placemat.

The ground floor was an open space.  A column was added to separate the sitting area from the kitchen.  The ornate stair banisters that came with the kit were omitted.  I made the bar stools to match the bar.  The table and overhead lamps were made using the stain glass paint that was used in the windows.  The light over the bar area is actually an inverted coffee table!  The walls are painted a light golden yellow color.

I added tiles to the kitchen spashboards.

The stairway lantern is identical to the the one on the porch.

My Granddaughter decided this should be a cat lady's house.

A king sized bed fills up the bedroom.  The bed and chair cushions were recovered. The bedside lamp was made using stained glass paint.  I moved the wall upstairs and added a door to separate the bathroom and bedroom.  My favorite room in the entire house is the bathroom.  I copied the decor from a real Craftsman house I found online.  The bathroom sink, bathtub, and commode are antique Strombecker pieces.  I made the overhead bathroom light from a real one I found online.  The walls in these rooms are covered with scrapbook papers.

The Craftsman House has since become The Cat Lady's House

Several cats have now taken up residence.

The cats are very interested in the little bird on the vintage birdbath by Tootisetoy.

I made the overhead light and the table lamps in this room.
The light over the kitchen bar is actually a coffee table turned upside down and accented with "stain glass" pieces.

In addition to cats, she also collects tea pots.

My grand placed the cats throughout the house.  A few weeks later, I laughed out loud when I found this one sitting on the commode!

Attics are a great place to store stuff, even in miniature.  The fold out ladder drops down to the bedroom below, giving access to the attic.

The attic ceiling is made from a bamboo placemat.

A little family of mice live in the attic.
